1. Overview
OrbitExSpace Inc. ("OrbitExSpace", "we", "us") works with materials and energy sources that require careful handling. This page describes the policies that govern hazardous materials and energy sources in our current work and in our future systems. We apply the hierarchy of controls — elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment — to every hazardous activity.
2. Hazardous Materials Policy
We handle hazardous materials — including solvents, propellants, reactive metals, and other regulated substances — under documented procedures, with appropriate storage, labeling, training, and disposal. We comply with applicable environmental and occupational health laws, including OSHA standards and EPA regulations. We minimize the use of hazardous materials and substitute less hazardous alternatives where feasible.
3. Battery Safety Policy
We use lithium-ion and other energy-storage cells in our systems. We design battery systems with appropriate electrical protection (balancing, overcurrent, over-discharge, and thermal protection), test to failure to characterize failure modes, and handle and store batteries in accordance with applicable safety standards. Damaged or suspect cells are quarantined and disposed of responsibly.
4. Pressure Systems Safety
Pressure vessels and pressurized systems are designed to applicable standards (including ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code where relevant), tested before use, inspected periodically, and operated within their qualified envelope. We do not operate a pressure system beyond its qualified pressure or life.
5. Radiation Safety Policy
Where we use radiation sources — including for testing or calibration — we handle them under documented procedures, with shielding, monitoring, dosimetry, and training appropriate to the source. We comply with applicable radiation-safety regulations and maintain the required licenses. We minimize the use of radiation sources and prefer alternatives where feasible.
6. Laser Safety Policy
Lasers used in our work — for sensing, ranging, or testing — are classified, labeled, and operated in accordance with applicable laser safety standards (ANSI Z136). We control beam paths, use appropriate interlocks and eyewear, and train operators on the specific hazards of the equipment they use.
7. Propulsion Safety Policy
Any future propulsion work involving energetic systems — pressure-fed, chemical, or electric — will be conducted under a documented safety program with hazard analysis, remote operations for hazardous tests, quantity-distance siting, and emergency procedures. We do not currently develop orbital launch propulsion.
8. Explosives and Pyrotechnics Safety
If we ever use pyrotechnic or explosive devices — for separation, actuation, or other functions — we will handle, store, and test them under a documented explosives safety program with appropriate licensing, siting, and training. We do not currently handle explosives or pyrotechnics.
9. Nuclear and Radioisotope Systems
OrbitExSpace does not currently design, manufacture, or handle nuclear or radioisotope power or propulsion systems. If that ever changes, we will do so only under the applicable national and international safety framework, with the required authorizations and controls, and we will publish a dedicated policy. This entry exists for completeness only.
