Autonomy Engineer — Perception
Autonomy / PerceptionLos Angeles, CAFull-timeOn-site
Build and field-test perception stacks for terrestrial autonomy testbeds, with a path toward surface robotics.
Overview
You will own core pieces of our perception pipeline — from sensor ingest through state estimation, detection, and behavior-relevant scene understanding. The work begins on Earth, in controlled and analogue terrain, and is designed to converge toward surface robotics where latency and environment are unforgiving. You will iterate with hardware in the loop and ship to real vehicles regularly.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain perception modules (multi-sensor fusion, SLAM, detection, tracking)
- Run field tests in analogue environments and turn failures into design changes
- Benchmark performance against mission-relevant scenarios and latency budgets
- Collaborate with mechanical and embedded engineers on sensor packaging and calibration
Requirements
- Strong C++ and Python; production perception or robotics stack experience
- Deep understanding of SLAM, multi-sensor fusion, and probabilistic state estimation
- Comfort operating real hardware in the field, not only in simulation
- Degree in robotics, CS, EE, or equivalent practical experience
Nice to have
- Experience with vision/lidar/radar fusion in degraded conditions
- Familiarity with safety-critical software practices
- Prior work on planetary or extreme-environment robotics
